About

About Tend and its developer

Tend is a native Mac app for Apple silicon that shows which apps are draining your battery, how your battery, heat and storage are doing, and what to do about it. One person makes it: Mohamed Elsawy, an independent developer based in France, who also writes the guides on this site.

Who makes Tend

Tend is made by Mohamed Elsawy, an individual developer based in France, trading as Tend Mac. He designs and builds the app, runs the website and the license server, answers the support email, and writes and updates the guides. There's no team behind it beyond that one person.

Every release is signed with his Apple Developer ID (team FCP648KVG2) and notarized by Apple, which scans it for malware before it's published. You can check both on your own Mac with the command on the home page. The first public version, 0.9.0, came out on 10 October 2026; the changelog lists every release since.

The legal details, including who is responsible for your data, are in the terms and the privacy policy. He's on GitHub as wastedpha.

What Tend does, and what it doesn't

Tend runs on Macs with Apple silicon and macOS 15 or later, and speaks English, French, German, Spanish and Japanese. It reads your Mac's battery, power, temperature and storage, and turns them into plain answers: which apps used the most energy (in estimated watts, marked with ≈), how worn the battery is, whether macOS's Charge Limit is worth turning on for the way you use your Mac, and what's taking up space.

It doesn't control charging or fans: it reads them, and leaves the controlling to macOS's own Charge Limit or apps such as AlDente. Its Security check reads your settings and app signatures, but it isn't antivirus. Its clean-up tools only move what you choose to the Trash; the few things that are permanent (Shredder, snapshot removal, saved form entries) ask first. The Tend app has no ads or tracking, and no analytics except the optional usage statistics in Tend 1.4 and later, sent only if you say yes.

How Tend makes money

The battery and energy monitoring is free, with no time limit and no account. Tend Pro adds battery care, heat and fan readings, alerts, longer energy history, the weekly report and the clean-up tools that move files to the Trash, for $1.99 a month, $12.99 a year (with a 7-day free trial) or $29.99 once. Prices are in US dollars and exclude tax; Stripe is the merchant of record. That's the whole business: there are no ads on this site, and the links to other apps in the guides are plain links, not affiliate links.

How the guides are written

The guides exist to answer a question about your Mac properly, whether or not you ever use Tend. They follow the same rules:

  • The answer comes first, then the steps: the free, built-in way, then Terminal, then apps.
  • Apple's own documentation is cited first. Every guide ends with its sources, and where Apple doesn't document something, the guide says so.
  • Menu paths are checked on macOS 15, 26 and 27, and Terminal commands are run before they're published, with a note on anything that deletes or can't be undone.
  • Numbers are measured or sourced. A measured figure says which Mac and macOS version it came from (for example, a 14-inch MacBook Pro with M2 Max running macOS 27.0.1); anything else links to where it came from. Tend's per-app watts are always called estimates.
  • Other apps are described from their makers' own websites, checked on a stated date, with what they do better than Tend and a line saying Tend isn't affiliated with their makers.
  • Tend gets its own short section near the end, says exactly what's free and what's Pro, and is never placed first in a comparison.
  • The "Updated" date moves only when a fact, a step or a menu path changes, not for typo fixes.

Tend is our product, so it has a stake in every guide that mentions it. If a guide gets something wrong or leaves something out, tell us and we'll fix it.
