What's new in Tend
Every release, newest first. Tend updates itself, so you'll get each one automatically.
0.9.2
Coming soon
New
- Tend accounts. Sign in with an email code, Apple or Google, in the app or at tendmac.app/account. No passwords.
- Pro follows your account. Sign in on another Mac and Pro turns on there too, up to 3 Macs per license. Purchases link to your account by email.
- Account page on the web. See your plan and license keys, see and remove your Macs, link a license key you already have, manage billing, and delete your account.
- Welcome. A short first-run guide to what Tend measures and keeps private, Simple or Advanced view, notifications, macOS's Charge Limit and open at login.
- Weekly report (Pro). On Monday mornings, a short summary of the apps that used the most energy, your Mac's total energy use, time on power and any change in battery health.
- What's New. After an update, Tend shows a short note on what changed.
- About & support in Settings. Check for updates, see whether notifications are on, and email us feedback with optional diagnostics (versions and Mac model only).
- Crash reports you control. If Tend quits unexpectedly, it offers to email us a short crash summary, which you read before sending. Nothing is uploaded on its own.
- Founding list confirmation. Joining now takes a click on a confirmation email, so the list only holds people who asked to be on it.
Improved
- Alerts never ask for notification permission out of the blue. Tend asks only when you choose to, during the welcome or in Settings, and tells you when notifications are off.
- The heat warning starts at 40 °C by default (was 35 °C), waits until the battery has stayed that warm for 5 minutes while charging, and comes at most once per charge.
- The CPU heat alert waits for a full minute of heat, and on fanless Macs only fires while macOS is slowing the Mac down to cool it.
- The unplug reminder fires when your charge reaches your level, not every time Tend opens on a Mac that's already above it.
- The Battery Coach knows about macOS's Charge Limit and can tell you your battery is already well looked after. It also waits for about 20 hours of awake time, not just 3 days.
- Battery health matches the Maximum Capacity in System Settings when macOS reports it.
- Per-app watts are an estimate of the power each app adds above your Mac's idle draw, with GPU power split by each app's GPU time.
- Updates say when a source couldn't be checked, instead of showing "up to date", and mark updates that need a restart.
- Startup items installed for all users switch without a password. Only system services ask, and the prompt says which item Tend is changing.
- On Macs without a battery, the Battery page becomes Power, the menu bar shows CPU % instead of battery %, and battery-only alerts are hidden.
- Tend's window can shrink to 880 × 540, and pages rearrange to fit. ⌘1 to ⌘9 and ⌘0 always open the same page, from a new Go menu.
- The unplug reminder and the "full charge is due" reminder pause while macOS's Charge Limit is on, since macOS already handles both.
- Open at login starts Tend quietly in the menu bar, without opening the main window.
- Update buttons wait for an install that's already running, and show when they're unavailable.
- The uninstaller's list of leftover files scrolls, so you can see every item before it goes to the Trash.
- Settings shows license errors next to your plan.
- Licenses and Macs now live in a database that enforces the 3-Mac limit reliably, even when two Macs activate at once.
Fixed
- Security: the uninstaller only offers leftovers that sit directly in their expected Library folders, so an app with an unusual name can't make it offer a whole Library folder.
- If macOS won't let Tend move an app to the Trash, Tend no longer removes that app's settings and caches. It removes nothing and tells you to use Finder.
- Delete local history now deletes the daily battery health record too.
- Deactivate this Mac keeps the license on the Mac unless the server confirms the slot is free.
- Temperature readings include every CPU and GPU sensor, so the hottest core is no longer missed.
- Energy history and the runaway-app alert no longer count time your Mac was asleep.
- The Battery page says "Charging…" until there's a time estimate, and "Fully charged" only when the battery isn't charging.
- A refunded license can no longer be reactivated by a late payment notification.
- The plans window only offers checkout when checkout is open.
- Tend won't quit, force quit or slow down itself or the parts of macOS that keep you logged in.
- Cleanup's "moved to the Trash" total counts only what actually moved.
- Network totals keep counting while Tend's window is hidden.
- The checkout page keeps waiting for your license through a brief network drop.
0.9.1
New
- Battery Coach. Tend keeps a 60-day log of how you charge, on your Mac only, and after about 3 days tells you whether a charge limit is worth it for you. How it works.
- macOS Charge Limit. On macOS 26.4 or later, the Battery page shows whether macOS's own Charge Limit is on and opens the setting. The old slider is now clearly an unplug reminder.
- Energy history. Which apps used the most energy over 24 hours, 7 days or 30 days. GPU power is now measured directly.
- App controls. Slow down a heavy app, Quit or Force Quit from Energy & Apps, plus an alert when an app maxes out the CPU for 5 minutes.
- Clean Up. Cleanup, Space Map, an Uninstaller that finds leftover files, and Startup Items with on/off switches. Everything goes to the Trash first. How it stays safe.
- Menu bar. Choose what it shows: battery %, watts, CPU %, temperature or just the icon. Keep Tend out of the Dock, and open it at login.
- Connected devices. Battery levels for AirPods, keyboards, mice and other Bluetooth devices.
- Simple and Advanced views, Celsius or Fahrenheit, and numbers that follow your region.
Fixed
- Security: release builds no longer contain developer shortcuts that, in 0.9.0, could unlock Pro from Terminal. The beta status from our server is now signed, so it can't be faked.
- Space Map won't move your home folder's standard folders, anything directly inside Library, or credential folders to the Trash.
- Alerts ask for notification permission the first time one is due, instead of being silently dropped.
- Startup items for all users show the correct on/off state, and leaving Space Map mid-scan stops the scan.
- Quit reaches every process of an app, and the uninstaller recognizes running apps more reliably.
- Each purchase always produces exactly one license, and subscribers keep Pro while Paddle retries a failed renewal.
