The practical answer
Use the official Trend Micro source or its App Store listing, make a backup and inspect each proposed removal. We have not installed or audited the current binary, so this page does not certify it malware-free or claim that its automatic selections cannot delete something important.
The relevant questions are separate: is the download the intended vendor’s product, what data and permissions does it use, and will its cleaning action remove files you still need? An App Store listing helps identify an edition and seller; it does not answer all three questions.
If you only need to find a large file, start with macOS System Settings › General › Storage. Our free storage workflow may solve the problem before you add any cleaner.
Cleaner One and Cleaner One Pro are different listings
| Checked US listing | What it says | Version and minimum |
|---|---|---|
| Cleaner One Pro - Uninstaller | Free download with in-app purchases; several removal features require payment. | 6.6.8, 18 August 2025; macOS 10.15 or later. |
| Cleaner One: Disk Clean | Separate free Mac listing with its own feature description. | 6.5.3, 30 August 2024; macOS 10.13 or later. |
The seller shown is Trend Micro, Incorporated. Both descriptions discuss Apple silicon support. The Pro description says it is compatible with Monterey and Apple silicon; it does not separately certify macOS 27 in the checked listing. A full current Intel model list is not stated there.
The direct Pro site also lists macOS 10.15 or later, and its purchase page says a 64-bit processor. Do not use the older free app’s 10.13 minimum as the requirement for the Pro edition. The direct product page does not publish a separate current release number and date, so the App Store version above is specifically that edition’s record.
Where Cleaner One Pro is stronger
Trend Micro documents disk mapping, large-file review, duplicate and similar-photo tools, app management and a menu status view. It is useful if you want those tasks organized inside one cleanup product, including a map for disk locations beyond a home-folder-only scanner.
The Pro listing marks functions such as duplicate removal, photo removal, app removal and some detailed status information as requiring an in-app purchase. That is more informative than treating “Free” beside the download button as a promise that all cleaning is free.
The direct site also advertises vulnerability checks and adware removal. Those are the vendor’s listed functions, not a detection result from this guide. Trend Micro lists Antivirus One as a separate product; do not assume every capability of that antivirus is part of Cleaner One Pro.
Watch out for: a broader scope means more selections to review. A duplicate is not automatically unwanted, a similar photo is not an exact duplicate, and a large cloud-synced file is not automatically safe to delete everywhere.
What it costs, and what remains unclear
The US Pro listing describes paid access as starting at US$19.99 per year. Its in-app purchase catalog lists “Unlock Full Version” at $19.99 and $29.99 without clearly identifying both terms in that catalog. Confirm the exact plan and renewal shown in the purchase sheet rather than interpreting the second amount as a lifetime license.
The direct store has one- and five-device annual choices, but its live one-device price did not resolve completely during our check. We do not copy a price from a different country’s store or convert it into dollars. The final currency, term and device coverage should be visible before payment.
A direct purchase and an Apple subscription can use different billing controls. Removing the app does not cancel either. Keep the receipt and cancel renewal through the provider that charged you if you no longer want the plan.
The 2018 privacy episode, in its proper scope
Trend Micro’s statement dated 10 September 2018, updated through 4 October 2018, says Dr. Cleaner, Dr. Cleaner Pro and four other named Mac apps uploaded a one-time snapshot of the prior 24 hours of browser history. It says Apple suspended apps over privacy and disclosure concerns.
The company said it removed the collection module, disabled the backend collection process, deleted the stored history and changed consent practices. It described a US-hosted server and explicitly distinguished the unrelated Adware Doctor app from Trend Micro’s products.
That is material historical context, attributed to the vendor’s dated account. It is not evidence that the current Cleaner One Pro version uploads the same history, nor does the company’s statement independently verify every current privacy practice. We do not label today’s app spyware on the basis of that episode.
Review current privacy and permissions
The current Pro App Store privacy label lists purchases, usage data and diagnostics under data not linked to you. Apple says this information is supplied by the developer and is not verified by Apple. It can vary with features and use.
Read the current privacy policy and data-collection notice for the edition you install. A label is a useful summary, not a complete description of every file a cleanup function must inspect locally. Local file access and sending information to a server are different questions.
macOS can protect locations with privacy permissions, including Full Disk Access. Grant a permission only when you understand the feature that needs it and trust the intended vendor. You can review it later in System Settings › Privacy & Security. Do not weaken System Integrity Protection or other macOS protections to make a cleaner scan more files.
Use a cleaner without treating every suggestion as a command
- Back up first. Include documents, photos and local-only app data you could not replace.
- Review a narrow category. Start with files you recognize rather than accepting every category at once.
- Preview duplicates and similar photos. Keep the copy with the location, metadata or quality you need. Similarity does not establish interchangeability.
- Check cloud and app libraries. Delete within the owning app where appropriate; a filesystem path can contain more than disposable cache.
- Prefer a recoverable choice when offered. The Pro listing distinguishes Trash from permanent deletion. Read the actual confirmation and do not treat a permanent action as undoable.
A free-space increase is not the same as a measured speed improvement. If the Mac remains slow after you remove files, investigate the workload rather than continuing to delete. The slow Mac guide covers that next step.
When another approach fits better
For one large folder, macOS Storage or a disk map may be enough. For app removal, use the app vendor’s uninstaller when one is supplied. For malware concerns, use the security workflow and a product whose actual Mac protection is documented.
Our Mac cleaner comparison groups tools by job, and CleanMyMac alternatives covers another common starting point. The separate MacKeeper investigation concerns that product’s facts and history, which should not be transferred to Trend Micro.
Where Tend fits
Tend’s free Space Map and cleanup inspection help review data in your home folder. Pro moves eligible selected items to Trash after review. It protects credentials, cloud storage and managed media libraries, but those boundaries do not make every other selected file unnecessary.
Tend does not provide antivirus or adware removal and does not replace a whole-disk map. Its free current app CPU, memory and estimated watts can help investigate activity, but high resource use is not a malware verdict. Compare tools by the job you need and the permissions you accept.
Questions
Is Cleaner One Pro free?
It is free to download, but its Pro listing marks several removal and detailed-information functions as requiring an in-app purchase. Cleaner One: Disk Clean is a separate free listing.
Is the 2018 browser-history issue evidence about the current app?
It is relevant historical context. Trend Micro said it removed that collection and changed its practices. That dated account does not establish that the current version performs the same collection, and this guide did not audit the current binary.
Will Cleaner One Pro make my Mac faster?
Removing unneeded files can address a storage problem, but this guide measured no speed improvement. Identify the actual bottleneck and review every proposed deletion rather than relying on a general optimization promise.
